How to become an specialist?
I’m really interested in alternative medicine but i dont know how to become a specialist. I live in Ireland but i will learn abroad if i have to. I like acupuncture and herbalism so any courses in there maybe?? Is it possible to get an apprenticeship or do i need a degree ? Any help or advice please :)

A degree in what? The problem with these people is that they have no education.

  1. Do you think Obama should have included more alternative medicine and energy healing in the healthcare bill?

Buy a book to learn the lingo (chi, energy, pressure points, etc), then just make up treatments as you go along. The vast weight of scientific evidence says that most of this stuff is essentially using the placebo effect, so as long as you can inspire confidence in your clients, you can help them feel better. Make sure you don’t poison them with your herbs and you should be fine.

Living in LA or NYC would also help.

hmmm, I’m reminded of this short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swDpWNKB5Co

pay no attention to scoffers, believe in your dreams and pursue them, you will be happey and so will those you help

What you are asking is the same as ” i want to become a conventional medicine specialist. how do i do that?’
Conventional medicine is a very wide subject and you cannot specialise in all that it covers only a small part of it.
If you are interested in Acupunture and Herbalism you may want to try TCM. The course vary from distance learning to full 4 year undergrad programs.

You may also be interested in medical herbalism which can again be a 3 year undergrad degree.

You may also want to try some of the more established therapies like osteopathy or chiropractic which have 4 or 5 year undergrad programs.

First you need to decide what branch of alternative/holistic medicine you are most interested in. The major ones are Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Chiropractic, Osteopathy and TCM/Acupuncture. You can learn more from local or national Associations. In many jurisdictions these are regulated health professions.
The general admission requirement to professional programs that usually require at least 4 years of study is a BSc degree.
Part of the course requirement for any of these health professions is clinical internship.
