Why is there all this talk of ADHD alternative therapy? There must be something wrong with mainstream therapy. Well, quite frankly, there is. The results are not nearly as good as they should be. Medication with the powerful psychostimulants seems to raise more problems than they solve. Just visit the FDA website to get an idea of their worries and concerns.

There are also concerns about how these drugs which are basically amphetamines, are being over prescribed in very large quantities for young children. We also know that ADHD is overdiagnosed and this is another concern.

The UK Local Education Authorities have given a great lead on this. They have inaugurated what they call ‘ADHD Care Pathways’. They like to call this a sort of wraparound support so that they give parents advice on what medication is best, how to make the home more ADHD friendly, what behavioral therapy for ADHD  they should follow. Then they also give advice on diet, school support, exercise and other ADHD issues.
